Marianne came to visit last week, from Wednesday to Sunday. It was her first time meeting the twins. The twins were suspicious when they saw her, and they burst into tears when Marianne picked them up. But after a short while they really warmed up to her. In fact, Marianne got them to laugh so much I couldn't believe it. They really found her amusing. Man, they never laugh like that with me...
The pictures are from her visit. We mainly either stayed inside, went to the park, or on Saturday we enjoyed the warm weekend and went to Coyote Point and saw the Bay, and got to see a variety of animals. It was really nice.
Starting yesterday, Annelie started cooing fairly loudly. I don't know why. Sometimes she seems angry, other times she is obviously happy. She has something to tell us, we just don't know what yet. It reminds me of that Steven Wright joke. When she can talk we'll ask her "Remember when you started cooing so loud? What were you trying to tell us?" Or maybe we should start asking her "What's that you say Annelie? There's a fire? At the old mill? And Little Jimmy's trapped?"
We had a busy social weekend with the twins. First, my old friend Jay Gupta popped in Friday night and saw us. He played very well with the twins. They loved looking and grabbing at his 'fro.
The next day we had lunch with my former co-worker Qingyang Hu, and her husband and baby. Her girl was born just a few weeks before ours, so it was interesting to compare them. The baby girl looked much older than ours, and was quite a bit larger. Her height is reportedly off the charts.
We met at the Shangai restuarant DingSheng in Milpitas. I think this was the first time the twins had been out of San Mateo. They behaved well, though, and Annelie even spontaneously began laughing while watching the waiters hurry back and forth! Everyone commented on how Marin's eyes are huge.
The food was good, we had braised pork and sticky rice inside a section of bamboo, stir-fried pork kidney, eel, tofu soup, steamed dragon dumplings, and cold tofu with wild vegetables. It was all delicious!
I just wanted to point out how fat Annelie's wrists are. Check it out (click on the the thumbnail for a larger picture):
