Sleepover fun!

Last Saturday night, Jordan and Allison slept over and, as usual, they played downstairs all night. We just got our game machines fixed and they had fun trying them out. First, they tried bowling...

Then, they moved on to more serious play...

Finally, they moved on, deciding to wear many hats. Jordan kept up his rock star image, while Allison went for the "hidden" look. Even I had to get a hat on to belong!

Grouchy Marin, Jaunty Marin, and Little Dutch Girl Annelie

Here's a picture I forgot to put up from my Mom's visit. Marin had a great time with my mother, but this picture tells a different story:

Yesterday was a wonderful warm day in San Mateo, so we went to the park. Before we went, Monica dropped by, so she went part of the way with us. Here are some pictures of Greta and Monica, Marin with her nice cap at a jaunty angle, and Annelie with her little Dutch girl cap. Plus Greta and myself.

Babies are laughing

The babies have both started laughing this week. Not all the time, but at least one laugh each.

Marin laughed when our friend Monica came by and played with her, and again when the downstairs neighbor Irene came up and talked to her for a while. She hasn't laughed with us, strangely enough.

Annelie reportedly laughed today when getting washed.

Now that they can laugh, I'll have to test to see if they enjoy Woody Allen movies.

Going to the Anti-War Protest

My father and I went to San Francisco on Sunday for the big anti-war demonstration. It was quite an experience, and I posted all about it to my personal blog. Read all about it there!

Marin and Annelie get weighed

Yesterday Marin and Annelie got to go to the doctors and get a shot! It was great fun. They also got weighed, and it turns they both broke into double digits. Marin is 10lb 8oz, Annelie is 10lb 4oz. It amazes me that some babies are born weighing that much. When I look at their size, it's actually getting pretty big - I can't imagine being that size and stuck in the womb.

Also, Marin slept through the night for the first time last night! Annelie has been doing that for some time. Hopefully they can both keep it up. Let's hear it for sloth! Woohoo!

New apartment stories

Our new apartment is great, but several strange things have happened in the past week. First, Sunday the garbage disposal stopped working. I tried to fiddle with it but got nowhere. It always seemed strange, it would vibrate with a violence I'm not accustomed to seeing in garbage disposals. So when the repairman came around on Monday, he evidently determined that the disposal got stuck on a piece of tomato. A piece of tomato broke the garbage disposal! The repairman did something fairly quickly to unstick it, and it worked fine again. When my wife asked about the violent vibrations, he said "Oh, that's because it very powerful". Yeah. Right.

Secondly, the fire alarm went off Monday morning. Greta had to call me home from the gym to help take the children. She had to haul both kids in her arms down 4 flights of stairs. The place did not burn down, though. Someone on the floor below me just left a pot on the stove and created a lot of smoke. I can only hope this doesn't happen often, but with all the little old ladies inhabiting my apartment building, it's a real possibility.

Third, our apartment is infested with ants! I'm trying to combat it by smooshing ants when I see one, in hopes that they will consider my apartment too hazardous to inhabit. This has never worked before, but it's more satisfying then letting them carry on their business in our cabinets and counters.
